Brindle Cross - Crossroads village whose south road brings it flour, letters and doctors. Nobody in the village knows how to light a lantern.
Fort Harrow - The royal garrison at the south end of the Lantern Road: grey stone walls with corner watchtowers, an arched south gate with a lantern beside it, Captain Rook's brick command house, wooden barracks, a parade ground and a training yard. About forty soldiers, most of them tired.
Shrine of the Open Hand - Father Tobin's shrine to Aurelan. Its altar now holds the three dead lantern-cores the party brought back.
The Crooked Kettle - Maddy Fenn's inn on the west side of the square: a wood-floored common room with a hearth, a bar with barrels behind it, long tables, stairs to the rooms, and a storeroom at the back.
The Lantern Road - The old road south from Brindle Cross toward Fort Harrow, one lantern to every mile. A milestone a mile out reads 'Brindle Cross 1 mile, Fort Harrow 39'. Around dead Lantern 37 no birds sing and the grass has turned grey.
Thornpike Woods - Dark pine woods east of the Lantern Road. South of the goblin trail's fork is a sheltered hollow with an old fire ring and a moss-grown Lamplighter way-marker from the old road that ran there before the Lantern Road was laid.
Wending Mill - A hamlet on the road south of Brindle Cross: a watermill on a millpond, a mill yard, cottages. Its barn was burned by goblins on 6 Emberfall; the villagers saved the mill with a bucket line from the pond.
